WoW - The Burning Crusade Delayed

Blizzard Entertainment announced this past week that their expansion pack to WoW entitled The Burning Crusade would be delayed until at least January.

I was really looking forward to this in a month or so but at least the delay will allow me to level up my warrior to 60 before the expansion pack is released.

Updated Wordpress

Wordpress has a new version out. You can read more about it over here. It fixes approximately 50 bugs and you should probably update immediately.

LORI (life-of-request info) and Firefox 2

LORI (life-of-request info) is a Firefox extension that adds the following functionality to Firefox.

For a given page,

* track how long it takes to see the first byte from remote server (time-to-first-byte (TTFB))
* track how long it takes to complete displaying the page (time-to-completion (TTC)
* track the page size
* track number of sub-requests used to build the page

Unfortunately it hasn't been updated in several months. I've taken the liberty to make it compatible with Firefox 2.

You can download it here. Make sure you right-click and save as.

Adding FeedLounge as a Feed Reader to Firefox 2

Firefox 2 has been released and after using the last 2 Release Candidates it's as good as promised.

One new features is Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds: Users can decide how to handle Web feeds, either subscribing to them via a Web service or in a standalone RSS reader, or adding them as Live Bookmarks. My Yahoo!, Bloglines and Google Reader come pre-loaded as Web service options, but users can add any Web service that handles RSS feeds.

This relatively short blog post will show you how to replace Bloglines with FeedLounge.

1. The first thing you need to do is go into about:config. Just type “about:config” into your address bar.

2. Now scroll down in about:config till you find the string called:

browser.contentHandlers.types.0.title

Right-click this string and choose “Modify”. Now get rid of the name Bloglines and replace it with the name FeedLounge. Then hit “OK”.

3. Next you will need to look a little further down in about:config till you find the string called:

browser.contentHandlers.types.0.uri

Right-click this string and choose “Modify” again. This time you are going to have to change the URL that your service in question uses. In the place where the feed would go, put in “%s”. So for FeedLounge, You should type this into that box:

http://my.feedlounge.com/subscribe/feed?url=%s

Then hit “OK”.

After completing these steps just restart Firefox 2 and you'll be good to go.

Google Notebook / Sidenote Replacement

I had been using Sidenote for some time now on both my G5 and the MacBook Pro. I was primarily using it a temporary storage device for URLs and quick notes to myself. One of the issues I've had with it is that there was no way to keep the two copies in sync.

Well I've decided to replace Sidenote with Google Notebook. Google Notebook is a Firefox Extension that allows you to browse, clip, and organize information from across the web in a single online location that's accessible from any computer. It also allows you to share your notebook with others should you chose to do so. It works with Firefox 1.5 as well as the Firefox 2.0 Release Candidates.
